At
this time of our year, we stop to reflect upon and be moved by the journey of
suffering Jesus experienced before He
triumphed over death and rose again.
As
a disciple, as an onlooker, quietly follow this journey and reflect upon these
questions …. “How do I feel or respond
to this account of Jesus, and why? How
does this impact on my life today?”
Palm Sunday takes us to the beginning of that
journey
- Jesus rides a donkey into Jerusalem - Luke 19:28-40.
- Jesus enters the temple and overturns the tables of the sellers - Mark 11:15-19.
- Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with perfume - John 12:1-11
- Jesus shares the Passover meal with His disciples and predicts that one of the disciples will betray Him - Mark 14:12-21
- Jesus washes the disciples’ feet and teaches them - John 13:1-20
- Jesus gives new meaning to the Passover bread and wine - Mark 14:22-26
- Jesus predicts the disciples’ desertion and Peter’s denial - Matt. 26:31-35
- Jesus prays for His disciples - John 17
- Jesus struggles in Gethsemane - Mark 22:32-42
- Jesus is arrested, tried and given over for crucifixion - John 18 & 19, Mark 16:1-8 & John 20:1-18.
Stand
with the women at the cross, feel the pain and devastation they and the other
disciples felt as the reality of Jesus’ death strikes them. They feel alone, confused, cheated, lost and
asking what were they going to do now.
Their hope had rested on Jesus and now He was not there.
Enter
Easter Day as the women going to the tomb in the early morning find the tomb
empty and the angel saying “He is not here.
He is Risen!”
Join
their excitement and hope as they and the disciples see the Risen Lord. Celebrate Christ’s Resurrection!
May
this Easter reflection deepen your faith and relationship with our Risen Lord -
our coming King!
