Galatians 3:8 tells us: “The scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham; all nations will be blessed through you”.
As part of the Godhead, Christ was the first presenter of the Gospel, as He first preached to Adam and Eve in the garden, and afterwards to Abraham. It was the gospel; it was good news to Abraham because the Messiah would spring from his seed, and all nations be blessed through him.
Abraham rejoiced in this prophecy, and by faith saw the ministry of Jesus Christ, and that part of the gospel concerning justification by faith.
When we think about this, we realise that this was before the law of works was given on Mount Sinai, and long before the doctrine of faith was preached to the Gentiles. The scarlet thread of Christ’s sacrifice and plan of redemption runs through the whole Bible.
God’s plan of rescue was no afterthought. He loves us and longs to make us His own.
