Our Passionate Pursuit

What we long for is to become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Christ.

These are not my words, but the words found in the Amplified Bible’s translation of Paul’s statement in Philippians 3:10.

“[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognising and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His suffer ings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death …”

In this single sentence, we find the apostle’s great goal for life. He refers to it as his ‘determined purpose’ as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. Go back! Read the words aloud! Turn the key words over in your mind! Chew on them and ponder them!

● that I may know Him
● progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him
● perceiving
● recognising
● understanding
● continually transformed

Could anything on this earth be more important for a child of God? Yet, strangely, we can easily side-track this all-important priority.

Let us make this our determined purpose; let us deliberately embrace this aim as we walk together.

May God bless you as you consider our passionate pursuit.
